VOX BOX

Well-ordered rhythm tracks with exquisite melodies and harmony singing abound. The Taters have made an excellent record.
 - Blue Suede News

With the alternative country movement becoming far too formulated for the genre's best interest by the late '90s, a band like the Taters could almost be seen as a breath of fresh air, with their homage to classic early rock balladry and '50s rock sensibilities being something few of their contemporaries were attempting. Making a Hank Williams song like "No Teardrops Tonight" sound like a Mavericks remake is no small feat, but lead singer and bassist Craig Evans has that certain vibrato in his voice, like Raul Malo, that makes comparisons to Roy Orbison inevitable.
      - All Music Guide

With a deft touch for gleaning the best of American roots rock and rockabilly - and delivering it with thoroughly modern, totally hip sensibilities - the Taters shine on a dozen strong originals and two well-chosen covers. As delightfully derivative as they are impressively imaginative and inventive, the Taters lay often-stunning vocals over an airtight rhythm section, spiced with smoking acoustic guitar leads and licks.

"You can’t look at anything in Richmond lately without seeing Burnt Taters on the cover. One listen to their CD "Vox Box" and you know why. Burnt Taters reached into the past and pulled much of their sound from the likes of Roy Orbison, Elvis, Hank Williams, the Beatles, and Marty Robbins. It is the bopping sounds of rock in its infancy, country when it was western, blues when it wasn’t the name of a clothing store.

What they choose to do, they do well. The music is excellent. The vocals are sublime. And the songs are outstanding"
