"The Taters are a real gem ... they have
a feel for their music which stretches the envelope"
- Country Harvest,
Melbourne, Australia
"Ahhh...the sweet silk of The Taters. A
great CD. The Taters bring early 60's rock and roll to the millennium
with heartfelt lyrics and timeless topics. The instrumental performances
are precise and regressive, with beautifully textured early guitar
sounds and rhythm section. The vocals by Craig Evans are smooth
ice cream on a hot heartbreaking day. Repeat listening of these
two-minute masterpieces is highly recommended.."
- earbuzz.com
"The Taters have developed a sound that
crosses all genres and fuses the best of roots-rock, power-pop and
rockabilly blues into a tightly packaged sound"
"STRANGE BUT TRUE is a must have"
- AOL Digital City
The Taters are less a true country group than
a 60s-influenced indie-pop band with country leanings. The Richmond,
Virginia-trio echo the sounds of Buddy Holly ("Truth Is"),
Donovan ("Be Myself"), the Buckaroos ("Anywhere That's
Pretty"), and particularly Roy Orbison ("I Don't Want
To Know," "Explanation," "Little Bit Left In
Me").
Their grab-bag creative method results in some original 60s-styled
country-folk ("Circle Of Love"), country-pop ("Never
Call Me Here"), and a wacky Western swing take-off ("Slowpoke")
with impressive versatility. Moreover, the group successfully blends
their eclectic influences into a cohesive audio statement... the
Tater's tight playing, catchy arrangement sense, close harmonies,
and surprisingly full sound that makes their second album worth
a listen.
